Georg Philipp Telemann //
1681 - 1767
Georg Philipp Telemann was one of music history’s good guys, a long-lived composer and teacher who tirelessly supported and encouraged younger musicians, and who wrote music designed to be played by good amateurs rather than virtuosos.  He maintained a lifelong correspondence with Handel and often had wise and penetrating things to say about this friend’s music.  Largely self-taught, Telemann wrote an enormous amount of music.  His collected works comprise more than 90 volumes, compared to J.S. Bach’s 50 plus.
